Norham Arts
Formed in 2017, Norham Arts was formally constituted as an unincorporated charitable association. Our express aim is to enhance understanding and enjoyment of the arts, particularly visual arts, in Norham and the surrounding area.
We welcome people to a challenging programme of exhibitions, events, talks, master classes and workshops, producing literature to support this as appropriate. To date, we have successfully hosted four well attended art exhibitions, created a virtual art gallery for the community and helped to curate an exhibition of embroidered tapestry panels in Norham Church. In addition to our week of events and exhibition about the English Romantic landscape painter JMW Turner (who himself attributed his fame to his paintings of Norham Castle), we established a Turner Heritage Trail around Norham village. We have facilitated art workshops and talks and, working with Destination Tweed Connecting Threads Project, have hosted musical events for the community. In 2024 we collaborated with Books by the Sea and River to establish a small free community library.

‘I made a drawing or painting of Norham several years since.
It ‘took’, and from that day to this, I have had as much to do as my hands could execute.’
JMW Turner (1831)
Although the core management group is small, Norham Arts benefits from a large body of willing volunteers who support the organisation in a variety of ways, such as with the setting up and taking down exhibitions, providing refreshments, stewarding events etc. We are very dependent upon this tremendous back up.
We also have mailing lists of people who like to be kept informed of coming exhibitions/events, talks and workshops.
