ESTABLISHMENT OF A WEE FREE COMMUNITY LIBRARY 2023
In December 2023 Norham Arts was pleased to fund a small community library.
With the help of Guy Douglas, who is the inspiration behind the charitable organisation ‘Emble Arts - Books by the Sea’ and David Smith, who built it, we set up our very own ‘Books By The (North) Sea and River’. Our little library is number 17!
These treasure troves of free books are dotted along the coast between Walkworth and Berwick and along the River Tweed to Norham... and there’s even one on the Hebridean island of Colonsay!
Keeping things simple, it is a wooden box by the side of the road.

We offer books to all: ‘for you, from us, for free; please observe our simple maxim:
'take a book, leave a book’.
